Blue Star Connection is a non-profit dedicated to providing access & ownership of musical instruments to children and young adults with cancer and other serious challenges. They have also provided instruments to music therapy departments in over 25 children’s hospitals and community programs around the country, including Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. They received the 2014 Advocate of Music Therapy Award from AMTA for their work. BSC works with music therapists in various hospitals and clinics and hosts fundraisers and benefit concerts in many cities around the world.
During #AMTA15, they hosted a concert at local venue Knuckleheads Saloon featuring Deanna Bogart, Albert Castiglia, Amanda Fish, Zac Harmon & Kate Moss, the Nick Schnebelen Band, Crystal Shawanda, Lauren Anderson (also a local music therapist), and the AMTA Blues Band (composed of AMTA members). BSC also collected guitars, keyboards, basses, and more to donate to MT programs!
For #AMTA16, BSC is excited to support music therapy by raising money and collecting electric guitars, amplifiers and accessories for National Conference in Sandusky this November. These will be used in the guitar bombardment sessions throughout conference. From there the guitars and amps will be donated to music therapy programs and clients across the nation! Here’s how you can help:
- Donate by going to their Go Fund Me Project “Guitar Drive for AMTA” and contribute. Every dollar counts!
- Donate gear! BSC is looking for guitars and small amps in good shape for the drive.
