What will you be sharing?

As this is a Level I Introduction to The Bonny Method of GIM, we (Primary Trainer Louise Dimiceli-Mitran and Assistant Trainer Dr. Sherry Raley) will be defining the basic elements of GIM in comparison with other music and imagery techniques, basic theory and clinical applications.  You will learn about altered states of consciousness, guiding, the role of music, music analysis, contraindications, standards of practice, ethics and gain a basic understanding of the types of music used in GIM programs.  Attendees will learn simple guiding techniques and practice in dyads throughout the training with the benefit of feedback and evaluation from the trainers. Simple music imagery techniques will be shared that can be used after the training.  Processing will be observed which includes the use of mandala drawings.  Demonstrations, clinical examples and details on how to receive training in GIM will be included.

What is your experience with this topic?

I (Louise) am certified as a Primary GIM Trainer by the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI) and as a FAMI have been teaching GIM with the Therapeutic Arts Institute since 2006. I have written and presented on GIM and maintain a private GIM practice in Chicago.  Assistant Trainer Dr. Sherry Raley is a Jungian therapist who brings knowledge of archetypes and Jungian theory to the training; she is also a FAMI and has a private practice in San Francisco.

Where will attendees be able to implement the information you share?

Besides enhancing and deepening your relationship with music, simple music imagery techniques will be shared that can be used in certain situations post-training.

Tell us something that makes your CMTE unique or different.

Taking this Level I seminar will not only deepen your relationship with music but will bring personal insight to your relationship with yourself.  Guiding and receiving sessions will also highlight the transformational power of music and often enhances the way attendees trust the music in their work as music therapists.

Why is this topic of interest?

This is the seminal method that was pioneered by music therapist Dr. Helen Bonny; it changed our field and deepened the possibilities for the power of music to transform!

Who should attend your class?

Music Therapists who are interested in deepening their work, enhancing their relationship to music and how they listen to music, expanding their understanding of the power of music to transform and add tools to their toolbox!

What kind of information will attendees be walking away with?

You will walk away with a deeper appreciation of the power of music to transform, simple music imagery techniques, a clear definition of what GIM is and how it compares to other music and imagery methods. You will understand more about the power of music and most likely gain some personal insight, too.

Registration for this training is limited to 12 participants, so sign up today!
